Because Abruzzo is all wonderful VIDEO/ENGLISH VERSION

WATCH THE VIDEO

Abruzzo gives many worlds to be explored. So, in the same region, it’s possible choose to go to the sea or to high mountains. In this way while many people had chosen to go to the sea I decided to leave the Majella National Park and go away…From San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore to…Campo Imperatore. Particularly in Fonte Vetica, Gran Sasso National Park.

I met some friends in front of “Fontana Giulia” at 16 o’clock on 14th August, planning to camp with a tent in Fonte Vetica. Even if the weather wasn’t good and it was raining we decided to move an hour later.

After took sleeping bags, tents and camping equipments we went away. We headed to L’Aquila going through Bussi. It was still raining; when we were in Ofena we asked to a woman the road to Castel del Monte, a country before Fonte Vetica.

While we were going up, the temperature was going down but the vegetation was beautiful with wonderful colours. We saw a tract of land without trees but with colours like Western landscapes.

After an hours drive we arrived to Castel del Monte, a beautiful country with  brooms thast seemed to fly on our heads.  They were ready for the famous night of the witches that is every year on 17th of August.

There were 13 Km from Castel del Monte to our destination. The rain was ceasing when we arrived in Fonte Vetica!!!

A wonderful tract of land. This place is called “Small Tibet” and this territory is place of Cinema and “Spaghetti Western”.
After an hour and half we arrived in Fonte Vetica, we left 23 Degrees of San Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore for the 16 Degrees of Fonte Vetica at 19.30 o’Clock. The landscapes was beautiful, looking the horizont we saw a part of sky coloured by the twilight. We were not alone to admire that sky, there were other people with tents and campers.

We pitched the tents for the night, we chosed a tract of land where a man who walks sees himself very small cause of the magnitude of the land. Then we ate what we had carried withus like “cold pasta” and good cakes and we enjoyed the coolness wearing a sweatshirt and a long  trousers.

The night was long, the sky was cloudy so we decided to go to Castel del Monte. When we arrived there we soon understood that it was not a normal country because it was full of tourists from all over the world and full of traditions. History and magic.

The walk continues with lots of laughs and after a few glasses of a typical drink of Abruzzo called “Genziana”. We spent the night singing tipical songs of Abruzzo with other guys. So the night passed quickly and at 2.30 o’Clock we came back to our tents…
"Genziana" a tipical drink of Abruzzo

There were seven degrees but all the clouds were gone and there was a beautiful starry sky. I saw seven falling stars: a rare and wonderful show. But the cold was felt so we entered to our tents and we gave ourselves a goodnight….

…finally it was morning!!! I was awakened at 9 o’Clock by screams of my friends and other people arrived to spend the 15th of August in this “Western Eaven”. It was a sunny morning. The sun gave a yellow colour to the land and the mountains around us made the landscape more beautiful.

Then I decided to do some shooting with my camera. Around us there was full of people just arrived who walked in the land and children who played and enjoyed the time. When other friends arrived we decided to eat the tipical food of Abruzzo: the Arrosticini. In that place there was a butcher’s shop where you can buy any kind of meat to cook all together in special barbecues.

After we had sit down in a table western style, we lighted the barbecue with the fire and we started to eat good “Arrosticini”. In this moments a guitar cannot miss so we started to sing and rejoice everybody with tipical songs of Abruzzo and not.

It started to rain so we decided to do not stop singing continuing under our “gazebo” but the rain lasted half an hour. We continued to sing and involve people.

Beautiful landscape, beers, Arrosticini, friends, songs and folks games like the “Morra”: this is the 15th of August spent in the National Park of Gran Sasso in Campo Imperatore, Fonte Vetica. Everything wonderful but the best is my commemoration of the Old West in this video :D

Abruzzo is this and such more. A place where in holiday times and not it’s possible to go to the mountain or spend wonderful days to the sea, all in a single region.
Because Abruzzo is all beautiful, “L’Abruzz é tutt bell”.
